I think the southwest corner of our backyard might be my nemesis. That might be a bit overly-dramatic, but not much. It just brings out the city-slicker in me. Or maybe I should just admit I'm a wimp. Last time I dug back there, I found a grub, with huge bulging black eyes and maggots in such a frenzy that the entire top layer of soil was undulating. I was so creeped-out, it felt as if those crawlers were climbing straight up my bare legs. Jacob was kind enough to dump our kitchen refuse in there tonight. But next time, I think it's my turn again.
Our compost pile. Covered with alfalfa hay. It's not quite so creepy when it's covered.
Look at all that rich soil. So good for feeding our crops next season. Take that you city-slicker! And look at that nice, fat, white beetle larva just between the shovel and rotting tomato!
This one's not nasty, but still creepy crawly. And amazing. Can you seeing the praying mantis towards the top? It's upside down. It measured at least 2 inches, and it was on our cherry tree, next to the compost. Sorry it's a bit out of focus.
And here is our favorite kind of cookie on the cooling rack.
(What kind of a post would this be without a little Alaka'i love?)
