Backyard Comedy

We have 5 chickens in our backyard.
Jacob bought them for eggs and eventually, dinner.
We have had them for about a month, and they've generally been pretty docile.  But just as Alaka'i begins to develop his independence, so too, do the chickens.  They have made themselves completely comfortable in the backyard, scratching through the grass, digging grubs out of the compost and generally being good little bug-eaters.  But now they want to enjoy the scenery ON the raspberry trellis, IN the apricot tree (on a branch, knocking down our precious fruit), and inside the cage surrounding the tomatoes.  Did you know they can jump?  And here's the funniest part - they just fly over whatever type of protection Jacob sets up around his veggies or fruit trees, and then get stuck.

Here are three chickens INSIDE the protective barrier around the apricot tree, and two outside the fence, offering encouragement and support while they wait out their temporary separation.
I think the comedy really began when I tried to get them out.
Chasing them in circles and shouting "get" does not in any way help them find the exit.
