Backyard

Here is some "progress" in our backyard.  It started out pretty boring, un-kept, and in need of some love.  It is still a bit wily in some areas, and is by no means complete, but here's where we're at.  The left side of the yard is primarily our food garden, and the right side is more "decorative".

What beautiful variety of color for drought-tolerant plants!

These colorful beauties pop up in June, and don't require a thing.  We didn't plant them, never water them, but think they're so lovely!

I've got a few potted succulents on a wine barrel.  I think it's very wild-wild-west!

Jacob is training these plum trees we bought last June in an espalier.  They will grow on the wires (you probably can't see them), and fill in as the years pass.    There are just a few plums this year.  But we're looking forward to tasting them!

Here is our "sitting area".  Right now, the crepe myrtle trees aren't big enough to provide shade, so we have this wonderful umbrella.  We've also tried our hand at some creative landscaping.  The hope is that in time, the ground cover will fill in around the stones and we'll have a very colorful place to enjoy the outdoors.

The apricot tree!  It gave us some yummy fruit this year, and I was able to make a few small cans of jam.   Alaka'i couldn't keep his hands off the fruit, so I'm surprised any ripened at all!

Raspberries.  They're nearing the end of the crop for this summer.

Blackberries are still ripening.  I think we've got a few more weeks yet.
