Since Jacob's show had a "dark" for about 8 days, and he got free tickets for 2 other Cirque shows, we decided to take advantage of a unique opportunity, and drove 4.5 hours to Las Vegas. We spent 2 days and nights there, and saw two spectacular shows.
The first day there, we arrived in the afternoon and walked the "strip", ate a delicious dinner, roamed around Venice and then traveled to the first show: KA. We also sweated a whole lot.
We discovered the monorail is worth every dollar. We got to travel in air-conditioning, and didn't need to avert our eyes whilst on the street.
The show was a martial arts sort of theme. The stage actually goes vertical. It was unbelievable. And kinda kooky.
I look like an old lady hunched over. I felt like an old lady hunched over. It was past my bedtime!
The second day, we traveled to Red Rock Canyon, which was only a few miles outside of Vegas.
The striated rock towards the middle of the photo looked like marbled steak.
Food was a big theme on our trip.
What great color contrast!
Just little ol' me.
A storm was brewing, but we didn't get much besides some rumbling thunder. Still, it was a nice contrast to see the heavy dark clouds hanging so low above the mountains.
And then, we went to Hoover Dam! I have wanted to see this for quite some time now, and I am glad we got the chance! We stood on a newly built commemorative bridge to take this shot, before we headed down to cross the dam itself.
Here's the bridge that connects Nevada with Arizona, where we stood to take the above photo.
These are all the intake towers for the water. The entire place was incredible to view, especially considering it was built in 1935.
I think Jacob said this measures about 700 feet high. Dad, you would have loved walking across the bridge and looking over the edge of this.
And then, we drove back to Vegas, ate a very lovely dinner at a French restaurant and very quickly returned to the Bellagio for our second show: O. I would definitely recommend seeing this show. The stage is a giant pool. The performers are not only acrobats and trapeze artists, but synchronized swimmers and divers. Thanks Cirque, for all the free tickets!
